1. Endless miles of Indiana farmland, punctuated here and there by a lone farmhouse in a stand of trees. Far off in the sky a hint of something glittery catches my eye. As we drive nearer, I see that it's a kite flying high on a breezy day.
2. The hotel was built in 1907 and beautifully restored in 2003. The elevators are paneled in rich, dark wood with beveled glass mirrors and brass holdings. I've just stepped into a time machine.
3. The chef has taken an ordinary "All American Breakfast" as the menu calls it, and made it extraordinary with a pinch of herbs and spices.
