Dark and Damp made Cozy, Famished, From Separate Corners of the House

1. It's not possible for the morning to be darker or wetter. I feel like I'm on a brightly lit stage when I stand in front of the wall of office windows, looking out. My reflection in the glass hovers over the dark gray parking lot and the fields beyond.
1.a. M. brought a floor lamp to work and set it next to her desk. That little bit of lamp-shaded light made the entire space feel homey.
2. I wasn't particularly excited about our humdrum dinner when I prepared it this afternoon. (It auto-baked while we were out on late afternoon errands.) By the time we got home, we were hungry and tired and this dinner was very exciting.
3. How fun for all three of us to sit together in the living room, watching a movie like this! It's ironic to think that a TV has brought us together.

  1. I've always wondered about that auto-bake feature, but never used it. Now I would like to know what the "humdrum" dinner was. :)

  2. Coming home to dinner cooked is always good and I too was "curious" as to what dinner you thought would only be humdrum, in your words, Lee.

  3. Meatloaf!! Meatloaf is humdrum.

  4. But that's what I had last night at my birthday dinner - grilled meatloaf with warm grape tomato jam and mashed potatoes with bleu cheese. Yum.

  5. I specialize in meatloaf. It's not humdrum. Maybe you need a new recipe? Here, I'll give you one of mine: Mix ground beef with Italian bread crumbs, an egg, chopped onion, about a quarter cup of parmesan cheese, and a glob of ketchup. Sprinkle the top with garlic salt and black pepper. When it's browned and almost ready, pour a can or jar of beef gravy on top. (Two cans if you're serving more than three people.) Stick a big spoon under the meatloaf so the gravy can get under there and mix it up with the juices from the meatloaf. Let it finish cooking and serve with mashed potatoes. Spoon the gravy on the potatoes. I serve some kind of green vegetables with it. Everyone loves it, even people who don't like meatloaf.
