Gunner

We said goodbye to Gunner today. He was the most faithful of dogs, big-hearted, kind and loyal. His name, Günnar means "brave", but he was really a big baby. He loved romping in the fields, getting into mischief with his buddy, Remington, eating Milkbones, popcorn, ice cream cartons or anything for that matter. He would let a child poke his face, nostrils, eyes and ears while he tried to nap. He slobbered when he drank his water, shed incessantly, and went berserk at the UPS truck. He liked to sit with his chin on the windowsill, watching the world outside. He wagged his tail until the end, allowed us to love him in all our imperfect ways and he loved us unconditionally in return. I am very thankful to have had the best dog.

  1. So sorry to read of your loss Leonora. We lost our Jess about 7 months ago now. She left a big hole in our hearts. (((hugs))) It sounds like Gunner was a very special friend indeed.

  3. Oh, I'm so sorry about Gunner! He looks a lot like my brother's dog. We fondly called him "the Big Galoompf." I'm not even sure what his real name was! But I can tell they had the same kind of personality. Those yellow labs are real sweethearts.

  4. Thank you, everyone, for your thoughts and kindness. We sure do have a big empty spot in our home without Gunner. "The Big Galoompf" sounds about right, Debbie!

  5. What a sad loss. Thanks for sharing. I appreciated your thoughts. Especially on the other blog post. Such very tough decisions. It was good to read your well-articulated thoughts, summing up many things I had swirling in my mind, in regards to pets, but hadn't ever really clarified.
